It all started with a bottle cutter that I got while I was in college. Fast forward to 2011...I got interested in fused glass after seeing the work of my neighbor and friend, Kitty Mollman. I took a class from Kitty at Craft Alliance...then another. I was hooked! I enjoy learning new techniques and I exhibited in my first show in the spring of 2013. Since then, i've participated in various workshops with Lisa Becker, Yuko Sago and others through Craft Alliance & Art Glass Array.
Fused glass or kiln glass is made by taking sheets of flat glass, cutting them, adding decorative elements such as other forms of glass (frit, stringers, noodles, cut glass shapes) gold, silver, copper and other metals. Usually at least 2 layers of the flat glass are needed. This is melted (fused) together in a kiln at a high temperature. Next, that flat, layered piece is melted (slumped or draped) again over a ceramic or stainless steel mold in a kiln.
Currently, my product lines include various sizes and types of dishes, plates, bowls, coasters, vases, and picture frames. I have also made some small items using glass inserts such as bobby pins, wine bottle stoppers, key rings and letter openers. Sun catchers , Holiday ornaments and magnets are also produced. I create both functional and decorative pieces.
